Many book lovers struggle to find others who share their passion for literature. As a result, they often feel alone in their love for books and crave a community where they can connect with like-minded individuals and engage in discussions about their favorite reads.
Problem
Our goal revolutionizes the reading experience by offering a solution where users can discover new books, engage in lively discussions with like-minded readers, share personal reading recommendations, and track their reading progress.
Goal
Competitive Analysis
For this part of the project we decided to explore the competitive landscape of online book platforms by analyzing three competitiors: Goodreads, PocketBook, and Apple Books, and compare key features and see what problems they address.
We have done "Featured analysis” “brand analysis” “Mapping Competitors” for each application. We discovered each platform has its unique characteristics and target audience, which influence its brand identity and perception among users.
Interview Quotes
To cultivate a deep understanding of our users' needs, habits, and frustrations, we conducted comprehensive interviews with group of 5 users. These interviews provided invaluable insights into their reading habits, preferences, and pain points.
Below are some of the quotes.
Affinity Diagram
We utilized affinity diagrams to organize and synthesize user interview feedback. By grouping similar ideas and identifying common themes, we gained a comprehensive understanding of user needs, preferences, and pain points, guiding our UX design decisions.
Empathy Map
Based on the interview the empathy map helps us to addressed the pain and gain gathered from our users, which focuses on understanding their thoughts, feelings, pains, and gains of them.
User personas played a pivotal role in our design process, offering vivid insights into the characteristics, goals, frustrations, and needs of our typical users. These personas functioned as detailed portraits, painting a clear picture of our target audience and enabling us to tailor our app to their specific preferences and requirements.
User Persona
In our exploration, we delved into David's journey as he sought to reignite his passion for reading. Initially uncertain about how to proceed, he turned to Google in search of assistance.
Upon discovering an application recommended by users, David's excitement surged. Eagerly, he navigated to the app store, downloading several options to test their efficacy.
However, his enthusiasm waned swiftly as he encountered frustration within the apps. The absence of a preference mode and the inability to track his reading progress left him disheartened and dissatisfied.
User Journey
This problem statement identifies a common challenge faced by reading enthusiasts: the lack of tools to effectively organize their reading experiences and connect with like-minded individuals. It articulates the need for a solution that addresses these issues.
Problem Statement
These "How Might We" (HMW) statements propose potential solutions to the problem statement above, each statement offering potential avenues for solution development.
How Might We (HMW):
HMW facilitate readers to connect, exchange recommendations, and participate in conversations about the books that resonate with them?
HMW help the users to track their reading progress?
HMW make a reading app that suggests books you'll love and lets you interact with them easily?
In project management, "MoSCoW" is a technique used to prioritize features or requirements. It helps categorize them based on their importance, using four categories: Must-Have, Should-Have, Could-Have, and Won't-Have.
MOSCOW
During the user flow phase, we mapped out how our app is structured and how users will move through it. This visual guide shows how different parts of the app connect and helps us organize content, making sure users can easily navigate the platform.
User Flow
During the low-fidelity and testing phase, we made early versions of the app interface and got feedback from users. This feedback will help us improve the design to make it easier to use and provide a better overall experience.
Low Fidelity Prototype/Testing
During the mid-fidelity stage, we crafted more detailed versions of the application interface and subjected them to user testing. By gathering feedback at this crucial stage, we aim to refine the design further, enhancing usability and overall user experience based on user insights.
Mid Fidelity Prototype/Testing
During our visual competitive analysis, we studied three key competitors: Apple Books, PocketBook, Goodreads. By closely examining their iconography, typography, and color schemes, we gained valuable insights into their visual branding strategies and approaches to user experience. This analysis provided a solid foundation for crafting our own distinct visual identity and enhancing user engagement within the market landscape.
Visual Competitive Analysis
We identified key brand attributes that resonate with our target audience and curated a mood board to visually represent the desired brand identity. This phase serves as a foundational step in establishing the overall look, feel, and personality of the product, ensuring alignment with our brand values and audience preferences.
Brand Attribute and Mood board:
In the style tile phase, we combined our brand attributes and mood board into a clear visual guide. This tile contains key design elements like colors, fonts, images, and interface components. It helps ensure consistent design across the product.
Style Tile:
High-fidelity prototype
We converted the improved design features from the style tile into a fully functional and elegantly rendered depiction of the product during the high-fidelity prototype phase. This prototype allows for extensive testing and validation prior to creation because it looks and functions quite similar to the final product.
